The ZOLL AED Plus and AED 3 use 10 × CR123A lithium batteries with an approximate 5-year service life under standby conditions. The ZOLL AED Pro uses a dedicated battery pack — consult the specific model specification for standby life. Battery performance depends on storage temperature and the frequency of device self-tests. Expired or depleted batteries are the most common cause of AED readiness failure. In South Australia, AED registration is mandatory under the Automated External Defibrillators (Public Access) Act 2022, and the obligation applies to in-scope premises from 1 January 2026. In other states, registration is voluntary, though the GoodSAM AED register and the Heart Foundation Defibrillator Register provide national voluntary programs that support first responder dispatch systems.
